Garden Travels – Lavender / Koi

Travel along as Dave journeys to Washington’s Sequim Peninsula to enjoy fields of lavender at Port Williams Lavender Farm. The farm is just one of several growers that have turned this quiet dairy town on the Olympic Peninsula into a popular tourist destination. The deep sandy soils and ocean-moderated climate allow farmers to grow and create everything from soaps to lotions to snacks from dozens of varieties of lavender. Each year the growers come together to produce the Sequim Lavender Festival held in July. Then it’s off to speak with Nicholas Gitts about how he turned his passion for colorful and elegant Koi into a business specializing in importing choice Japanese Koi to the US plus breeding his own special domestic fish. In this episode of Garden Travels, Dave’s favorites include: Quilled Coneflower and Toad Lily.
